We enable smallholder farmers to grow trees and earn money from the carbon they remove from the atmosphere.

Taking Root’s purpose is to accelerate the restoration of the world’s forests. Our technology and support make it simple for our reforestation partners to create transparent and robust forest carbon removals. From registering farmers and recruiting land, to monitoring trees grown and the carbon stored over time, we provide the tools at every step of the way to help our partners successfully manage

Communicating and Marketing Plan Vivo Projects 05/27/2025

For over 25 years, the Plan Vivo Foundation has worked with rural communities around the world to develop nature-based solutions that reduce poverty, protect ecosystems and fight climate change.

It's no small task, and communicating the value of this work can be just as challenging.

In this session, hear from a range of voices in the Voluntary Carbon Market, from project developers to carbon buyers, as we discuss the complexities of telling these stories and building support.

At Taking Root, we focus on planting the right trees, in the right places, at the right time.

This involves adapting to the unique climatic conditions of each region, which influences everything from planting schedules to species selection.

By considering these factors, we ensure that the trees grow into healthy forests, restoring ecosystems and sequestering carbon for long-term impact.

Not all land is suitable for forest restoration. That's where geospatial data comes in.

At Taking Root, we use geospatial data to:

🌎 Identify areas with the highest potential for forest restoration; and
✔️ Validate parcel eligibility for growing trees

This innovative approach allows us to create high-integrity carbon removals in partnership with smallholder farmers. It's also earned us a Geo for Good Impact Award!

Nurseries across the CommuniTree program are alive with new growth!

Seedlings are germinating, and planting season is just around the corner.

Each seedling is the result of months of preparation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to restoring ecosystems and supporting farming communities.

🌍 This Earth Day, we’re reminded that restoring the world’s forests begins with those who care most for them.

The land stewarded by smallholder farmers collectively represents one of the biggest opportunities to restore the world’s forests, but farmers often face barriers to make land-use choices in favour of growing trees.

At Taking Root, we partner with farmers to remove those barriers so that growing trees improves their livelihoods.

The result is lasting impacts for the benefit of climate, nature, and people.
