It’s been a while since I’ve shown up around here, so I thought it might be time for a proper introduction (or reintroduction).

I’m Lindsay, the founder and designer behind Mariko Studio, a branding and website design studio based in Vancouver, Canada.

One thing that surprises people is that my process rarely starts with design.

Before I’m thinking about logos, colours, or typography, I’m usually asking a lot of questions. About your audience, your goals, your vision for the business, where you fit in the market, and where you want to be a few years from now.

I think that probably stems from my background in Psychology and Fashion Communication. I’ve always been interested in people and perception. Why we’re drawn to certain brands, what makes us trust them, and why some businesses feel instantly memorable while others don’t.

As much as I love beautiful design, I don’t believe a brand succeeds because it looks good. The strongest brands are built with intention. The visuals are simply an expression of that foundation.

One of the nicest compliments I receive from clients is that every project feels completely different from the last. That’s very intentional. I never want a brand to feel like it came from a template or a formula. It should feel like an extension of the business behind it.

Mariko Studio is intentionally small, which means I’m very hands-on throughout the process. Every project is collaborative, strategic, and built from the ground up.

No chasing trends. No one-size-fits-all solutions.

Michelle came to us with the goal of launching her new leadership coaching business. She needed a brand and website that would position her as a trusted advisor to high-performing leaders, executives, and organizations while reflecting her unique approach to leadership development, coaching, and keynote speaking.

The challenge was creating a brand that felt authoritative without being overly corporate, polished without feeling cold, and elevated without relying on trends. We wanted to move away from the loud, aspirational aesthetic often seen in the coaching industry and instead create something more refined, intentional, and enduring.

Drawing inspiration from the worlds of fashion and editorial design, we developed a visual identity that feels sophisticated, timeless, and confident. Every element was designed to resonate with accomplished professionals who value substance over hype and are looking for a trusted partner to support their growth and leadership journey.

This was one of the most custom websites we’ve ever created, and every detail was designed to reflect Rebeka’s approach to photography: editorial elegance paired with honest storytelling.

We wanted the site to feel less like a traditional portfolio and more like an experience. Inspired by fashion magazines and fine art publications, the design blends bold typography, intentional negative space, and immersive interactive moments that invite you into her world.

The goal was to refresh Jenzel’s brand identity with a more customized & elevated feel, while preserving the timeless elegance of her original brand. Fresh, modern typography and an earthy colour palette were a must.
