Today we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day and recognize the enduring contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples to communities across Canada.
At ACE, we remain committed to advancing Truth and Reconciliation through education, advocacy, partnership, and action.
We are grateful to the Indigenous leaders and community members who have guided the Arthritis Community Learning Circle and helped shape the arthritis community's response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action for Health found in the Arthritis Action Now plan.
Together, we can help build a future where Indigenous Peoples living with arthritis have access to equitable, culturally safe, and person-centred care.

On June 21, people across Canada will mark National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to celebrate the rich cultures, histories, languages, knowledge, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. For the arthritis community, it is also an opportunity to reflect on our shared responsibility to advance Truth and Reconciliation in health care.
Arthritis Consumer Experts (ACE) is working alongside Indigenous leaders, researchers, health professionals, and patient organizations through the Arthritis Community Learning Circle (ACLC). Guided by Indigenous leadership, the ACLC was established to create a safe and trusted space for learning, reflection, and action on Truth and Reconciliation within the arthritis community.
In April 2026, Arthritis Action Now, a national strategy developed by 20 Arthritis Ecosystem Champion organizations, released its Response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action for Health ( #18–24). The document outlines collective acknowledgements, commitments, and actions aimed at improving arthritis care and health outcomes for Indigenous Peoples living with arthritis.

June is National Indigenous History Month. Arthritis Consumer Experts would like to highlight that arthritis affects Indigenous Peoples’ more significantly and more severely than in non-Indigenous populations.
To understand and practice Indigenous health, there must be respect for Indigenous Peoples, their world views, ways of knowing, and cultural practices. The concept of health for Indigenous Peoples is relational. In other words, the state of being in good health requires alignment of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and environmental health.
In this episode of Arthritis At Home, we are highlighting a study with Drs. Whitney Hung and Steven Katz from the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. The duo provides a summary of their poster presentation: Uncovering Rheumatologic Disease in the Northwest Territories: First Comprehensive Baseline Study and Comparative Insights.

Research from ACE’s 2025 National Survey on AI and Arthritis Care will be presented at the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) 2026 Congress in London, England, one of the world's largest and most influential rheumatology scientific meetings.
As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into healthcare, ACE wanted to better understand how people living with arthritis perceive these technologies, how much they know about them, whether they trust them, and what information they need to feel confident using AI-generated health information. To answer these questions, ACE conducted a national survey of people living with rheumatic diseases across Canada between June and August 2025.
While respondents expressed considerable interest in the potential benefits of AI, the survey also identified important gaps in awareness, understanding, and confidence.
