Letβs celebrate the Earth β and the small actions that make a big difference! π
π This day, 5 years agoβ¦ EcoCooks was born!
On April 8, 2021, we ran our very first EcoCooks workshop. During COVID, everything felt uncertain, and we were launching an eco-cooking program no one had ever heard of.
But families showed up. Parents trusted us with their kids, their kitchens, and a brand-new idea β that learning to cook climate-friendly food could change the way the next generation thinks about the planet.
Five years later, thousands of kids have cooked with us, learned where their food comes from, and discovered that small choices can make a big difference.
To the parents, volunteers, staff, and community partners who believed in us from the very beginning β THANK YOU! You've helped us grow something truly special. π
Hereβs to the amazing youth, the abundance of plants, the messy, fun kitchens, and the delicious planet-friendly meals!
Happy 5th birthday, EcoCooks! π₯π

π± Q: What is your go-to EcoRecipe?
π± A: Banana-bread cookies with every add-in imaginable! πͺ
π± Q: How often do you make it?
π± A: Every single week (or... several times a week)
π± Q: What is your favourite planet-saving tip? π
π± A: This is a toss up, because I immediately want to say "don't throw away your broccoli stems!"... but I think my favourite tip has to be: consign and buy second hand clothing whenever you can- there is nothing better than saving the planet while also saving a dollar!
π± Q: Tell us more about yourself! π©π½βπ³
π± A: Hi, I'm Ali! A former plant-based cafΓ© owner, and a current student in the Health and Exercise Science program at UBC Okanagan. During my time running the cafΓ©, I co-published a cookbook that reflects my passion for creating nourishing, accessible food from plants. Iβm deeply interested in the connection between food, health, and community, and I enjoy sharing plant-forward cooking as a way to support wellbeing and sustainability. Through EcoCooks, I hope to inspire others to explore the possibilities of plant-based food and its positive impact on people and the planet! β¨
