Practice Ready Assessment - BC
PRA-BC is an assessment program for internationally trained family physicians who have completed residencies in Family Medicine outside of Canada.
We provide qualified family doctors with an alternative pathway to licensure in British Columbia (BC). In 2015, the province of British Columbia launched an assessment program for internationally educated family physicians who have completed residencies in Family Medicine outside of Canada. This program, known as Practice Ready Assessment – British Columbia (PRA-BC), provides qualified family physicians with an alternative pathway to licensure in BC.

Calling all PRA-BC Applicants! The Medical Council of Canada's (MCC) September 2026 TDM Examination is now taking applications! The application form will be open from June 8 - June 28. If you've been waiting to take it, don't miss out!
The MCC is now responsible for administering applications for the Therapeutics Decision-Making (TDM) Examination. You will now have to apply for the exam through the MCC, without requiring the approval from the PRA programs. To apply for the exam, candidates will need to have their medical degree submitted for source verification in their physiciansapply.ca account and from there, you wait for your application to be approved!
Before applying for the TDM Examination for admission for our program, it is important to review our requirements to determine your eligibility. The TDM Examination is an important part of the application process, but applicants must meet all program requirements to be considered eligible.

🏥 Ring ring! Dr. Joseph Obanye is calling to let you know that UBC CPD Assessor Training Workshop is approaching! Taking place online, there will be two workshop dates available on March 6th or March 9th. The workshop will provide information, resources, and practical tools to help assessors evaluate and support PRA candidates during the Clinical Field Assessment (CFA) period.
Will you find it helpful? Will you be gifted an abundance of knowledge? Well, let Dr. Obanye tell you, "the thing with training is that you might think you know it all, but there's always someone who has a little bit more experience than you." INDEED. You may know a lot, but you may ALSO go home learning a little more. Doesn't that make you want to go? Actually, PRA-BC Primary Assessors are required to attend, so we are looking at you secondary assessors and those who are interested in becoming one. YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS IT!

🧑⚕️ Dr. Joseph Obanye has just pinged you! You should answer... Yes, indeed, a long standing PRA-BC Alumni and now, a PRA-BC Assessor, "the successor", if you will. Dr. Obanye is a Family Physician with Northern Health in Quesnel, BC and a successful PRA-BC candidate in 2015 (1+1... ELEVEN years in Quesnel, how amazing is that!). 🥼
Dr. Obanye shares the true impact of being an assessor on the clinic and the results are in: doing your part "to make sure that they come in and they stay and they help their communities grow," as an assessor, combined with the power of wanting "a better life for themselves and their families" as a candidate. The math really be mathing, it makes total sense. The impact on the clinic is, and always has been, about teamwork. As the saying goes, teamwork makes the dream work! 🏥
Thank you, Dr. Obanye, for sharing your experiences with PRA-BC!

There are not enough words to express our most heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this unthinkable tragedy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire community. Our hearts are with you, Tumbler Ridge.
Dr. Gulav Naman has entered the chat!
A Family and ER Physician with Interior Health in Lillooet, BC, Dr. Naman wears many hats, to serving at the Lillooet Medical Clinic, supporting Outreach Clinics for First Nations communities, and contributing her time and expertise as a PRA-BC Assessor. Truly, she does it all!
So, what’s the reward of being an assessor? For Dr. Naman, it’s all about helping and supporting physicians, especially because she remembers how challenging it can be to find a program that truly aligns with your goals.
Oh goodness, don't the words "aligns" and "goals" go so well together? Don't forget about "helping" and "supporting", those sounds like great rewards too.
Thank you, Dr. Naman, for sharing your valuable experiences with PRA-BC!
