HAPPY FOUNDERS DAY!

22nd February evokes excitement in millions of people around the world who have gone through the Scouting movement and enjoy the game of Scouting. We celebrate Founderโ€™s Day each year in remembrance of our founder Lord Baden Powell who, through his vision, continues to equip young people with life and leadership skills to improve their communities and create a better world.

Founders' Day is celebrated on February 22, the birthday of Robert Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell (born in 1857), the founder of Scouting, and coincidentally also of his wife Olave Baden-Powell (born in 1889)

Remembrance Day is celebrated on November 11 to commemorate the end of World War I and to honor all those who have served and sacrificed in the armed forces. At 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918, the armistice was signed, and a moment of silence is observed to remember the millions who have served in conflicts and peace operations. The day is also a time to reflect on the cost of war and to promote peace.

End of World War I: The date, November 11, marks the signing of the armistice that ended World War I at 11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

Honoring service: It serves as a time to remember and show gratitude for the courage, service, and sacrifice of all who have served in Canada's armed forces during times of war, conflict, and peace.

Symbolism of the poppy: The red poppy became a symbol of remembrance after World War I, as it was one of the only flowers to grow on the battlefields of Flanders.

Moment of silence: A two-minute silence is a key part of Remembrance Day ceremonies, held at 11 a.m. to honor those who died in service.

Promoting peace: Beyond remembering fallen soldiers, the day is also an opportunity to reflect on the horrors of war and to commit to working for peace.

โš ๏ธ1st Valley Scouting Group is in desperate need of storage for our gear, activities and camping supplies.

We are ideally hoping to obtain an enclosed trailer or shipping container of sorts for long term use.

If anyone knows of or has anything similar to spare, we would greatly appreciate it. ๐Ÿ™

Thank you kindly
