Security tools are still software, and software can fail.
Canada’s Cyber Centre has updated its advisory on vulnerabilities affecting Check Point security gateways after two flaws were added to CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalogue, a useful reminder that the controls organizations rely on for protection must themselves be tested and maintained. Canadian Centre for Cyber Security Patching known vulnerabilities is urgent, but it answers only one question. Organizations also need to know which systems are exposed, which controls are actually working, and where assumptions have replaced evidence.
Datarisk Canada’s Verify™ Security Risk Assessment examines vulnerabilities, tests safeguards and measures the effectiveness of security controls so organizations can make decisions based on evidence rather than confidence alone.

Canada’s Privacy Commissioner has put third-party privacy risk back in focus, and the lesson is a simple one: you can outsource the processing, but you cannot outsource the accountability.
Every supplier that handles customer, employee or identity data creates another point where privacy obligations can break down, often long after the contract is signed. Managed Privacy Canada’s Vendor Privacy Assessment, available through SupplyChainPrivacy.ca, helps organizations examine what data vendors receive, where it goes, who else can access it, how it is protected, and whether the evidence matches the promises.
A signed agreement is useful. Knowing what is actually happening to the data is considerably better.
Trust your suppliers, certainly. Verify them as well.

Why should proving your age require handing over your identity?
Will Canada Verify Age Without Collecting Identity Information?
Canada is considering new age-assurance rules for online services. The privacy question is whether those systems should collect driver’s licences, birth dates, photographs and other identity data or whether we can design something better.
We can.
Privacy-preserving digital credentials can prove a simple fact such as “over 18” without telling a website your name, birthday, address or licence number.
That changes the conversation.
In the latest issue of the Bad Privacy Blog (BPB), Claudiu Popa addresses European approach to zero-knowledge age proofs, what Canada can learn from it, and why privacy by design should mean preventing unnecessary personal information from entering the transaction in the first place.

There is something reassuring about a screen full of familiar logos.
Dropbox. Slack. HubSpot. Stripe. DocuSign. PayPal. Canva. Apps we see every day, now promising to make our work faster and more productive through AI.
But what data, permissions and business systems are you actually giving an AI assistant access to when you click the plus sign?
Canada’s Privacy Commissioner has just released new guidance calling on organizations to assess third-party service providers before adopting technologies that involve personal information.
In the latest issue of the Bad Security Blog (BSB), Claudiu Popa explains why AI integrations deserve the same scrutiny and outlines five practical checks organizations should make before connecting them to corporate systems.
