Many families across the province depend on school breakfast and snack programs to make sure their children have enough to eat. During the summer months those programs disappear, leaving families in need with no choice but to turn to a food bank to put food on the table.

For every family having fun this summer, there is a family facing incredibly difficult challenges, working hard to stretch their already tight budgets to pay for additional expenses like childcare and transportation. Often, we hear from parents who tell us they need to skip meals after a day at work to make sure their kids have enough food to eat. Helping kids have access to the healthy food they need to grow and learn is an important part of the work food banks are doing throughout the province, and you can help us make sure their shelves stay stocked for kids in need.

When you give today your generosity will be matched by our partner, Ontario Turkey, providing 4 meals to a family facing hunger for every $1 donated. Learn more: https://ow.ly/LZkQ50Z7Nyf

It’s National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to celebrate the diverse cultures of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, and today we want to highlight the importance of Indigenous food sovereignty.

In our region, there is incredible work being done by Indigenous people and organizations to strengthen food sovereignty in their communities. We encourage you to continue learning about and celebrating these vital efforts throughout the rest of Indigenous History Month and beyond!

That's a wrap on our annual conference, presented by Ontario Power Generation! This week, food banks from across the province had a chance to connect, share resources, and learn valuable information about creating inclusive environments, poverty reduction, good organizational governance, how food insecurity affects health, and emergency preparedness.

Thank you to Ontario Power Generation! Because of their generosity, food banks were able to build their skills to ensure they can meet the needs of the people facing hunger in their communities with the highest standards of service.
