SoundPrint
The SoundPrint app has been called the 'Yelp for Noise' - find bars and restaurants by how quiet or noisy they are And…SoundPrint was born!
Greg, the founder and who is hearing-impaired, had great difficulty hearing his dates in NYC’s notorious loud bars and restaurants. He searched and searched and searched online for quiet spots and got frustrated as venues would advertise themselves as quiet or moderate, but were often very noisy due to interior design, loud background music or lack of sound-proofing material. He began keeping a personal database of venue sound levels (both quiet and noisy) for future dates and shared the information with friends. Word got around and communities for the hearing impaired, the blind, autism, and those who simply like quiet spots started asking for the database to be crowd-sourced and available to all.

Audio producer Bishop Sand from spoke with our founder Greg Scott to learn about sound level data findings crowdsourced from the app.
"The number of restaurants rated in the app as “conducive to conversation” has increased to roughly 40 percent, while the number of “excessively loud” restaurants has dropped to 30 percent," Greg shared.
In addition to well documented hearing health damage from prolonged noise exposure, Sand points out the invisible effects of 'increased anxiety and fatigue.'

When are the best hours to visit coffee chains?
SoundPrint data shows that Quiet hours (70 dBA or lower) at Starbucks were before 8am and between 6-8pm.
Outside these times, Moderate levels and higher peaked around 10am, 3pm and 10pm.
While Starbucks is the most popular coffee chain in the U.S., if you’re looking for the best place to meet for conversation, choose a different coffee chain, preferably between 1-4pm!
