HOW WE TAUGHT “DROP IT” 🐶

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆, 𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 ⤵️
- Have two of the same toys handy (you want the toys to be of equal value for your dog, so using the same toy is helpful)
- When your dog has one toy in their mouth, show them the second toy and be exciting, they will likely drop the toy in their mouth
- Say your verbal cue “drop it” once you show them the second toy and as soon as they drop the toy from their mouth, mark with your marker word or clicker (we use the word “yes”) and use the second toy as their reward and continue playing

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 ⤵️
- Using a similar method as above, have one toy to play with and have some treats handy
- When your dog has the toy in their mouth, say your verbal cue “drop it” and have them smell or see the treat so they lose interest in their toy, once the toy is dropped, mark and reward with the treat
