Hot weather running — it’s pretty intense isn’t it?
Your easy pace feels like tempo. Your tempo feels like a race. And let’s not even talk about the tan lines.
Running in the heat can make you seriously question whether you’re cut out for this — but please remember: summer running isn’t about maintaining your normal paces. It’s about managing your effort. Slow down, run by feel, and know that your fitness isn’t going anywhere. You’re just doing more work than the data shows.
What is optional? Running yourself into the ground because your watch said you were “too slow.”
What’s not optional? Fuelling properly. Hot runs = higher sweat rate = you need more than you think, earlier than you think.
