Did you know that PCOS has officially been renamed PMOS?
PMOS stands for Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.
While it may sound like a simple name change, it actually reflects a major shift in how healthcare professionals understand the condition.
For years, many women associated PCOS with ovarian cysts. Yet many women diagnosed with PCOS never had ovarian cysts at all.
What researchers now understand is that this condition affects much more than reproductive health.
It can impact:
• hormones
• metabolism
• insulin resistance
• fertility
• mental health
• cardiovascular health
• long-term wellness
The new name helps reflect the reality that this is a whole-body condition, not simply an ovarian condition.
As someone passionate about body literacy and women's health education, I believe understanding our bodies helps us advocate for ourselves with greater confidence.
In my latest article, I break down:
✔ Why the name changed
✔ What PMOS means
✔ What women should know moving forward
✔ How understanding your body can improve your confidence and care

We often talk a lot about wellness.
Rest.
Nutrition.
Hydration.
Hormones.
Nervous system support.
But healthy skin matters too.
Taking care of yourself isn't one thing.
It's a collection of small daily decisions.
One of mine is making sure I protect my skin before heading outside.
What's one wellness habit you've added recently?

For years, many Black women have shared experiences of being dismissed, overlooked, or not fully believed when speaking about pain, reproductive health, emotional distress, and maternal wellness.
Bill 115, the Black Health Equity Act, 2026, is an important acknowledgment of conversations communities, doulas, wellness workers, and advocates have been having for a very long time.
At Yoni Spa, we’ve been discussing:
* women’s sexual health,
* culturally safe care,
* emotional wellness,
* body literacy,
* and healthcare distrust for years.
Just like the susu became a response to financial exclusion, many Black communities created parallel systems of care when traditional systems left gaps.
I wrote a full feature article reflecting on:
• the Black maternal health crisis
• healthcare distrust
• holistic wellness
• community caregiving
• Bill 115
• and why safe spaces matter

Because healing begins differently when women are finally listened to.
Some conversations are uncomfortable because they force us to confront what many Black women have been experiencing quietly for years.
Being dismissed.
Being overlooked.
Being told our pain is “normal.”
Being forced to advocate harder for ourselves while already suffering.
And the truth is… many Black women delayed seeking care not because they do not care about their health, but because too many have had experiences where they did not feel safe, heard, protected, or believed.
This conversation matters deeply inside maternal health, mental health, reproductive health, and women’s wellness because stress, fear, dismissal, and medical trauma do not disappear once the appointment ends. The body remembers.
Today I’m reflecting on the importance of Bill 115, the Black Health Equity Act, 2026, and the growing conversations around culturally safe healthcare, accountability, and equitable treatment for Black communities across Ontario.
Modern-day doulas understand something important:
sometimes advocacy is part of care.
And sometimes one of the most healing things a woman can hear is:
“I believe you.”
Watch this clip carefully.
Not to argue.
Not to perform outrage.
But to listen honestly to what many women have been trying to explain for a very long time.
