These two pieces were my first experiment with creating an anatomy motif as a colourful, multi layered piece. I reworked the colours from the originals to make them pop even more, and I mount the “frame” so that it’s raised up from the backing mat and creates a shadow. I like the idea of the heart and brain - the feelings and thoughts - being “held” carefully in a hand, while presented “on display” in an intricate frame. Conceptualizing these pieces took weeks and weeks of work - they are made to be treasured 🫀🫶🧠

The DNA double helix piece is finally complete! This piece took me many, many, many iterations. I have been asked to do a DNA papercutting a bunch of times over the years but I knew getting it right would be tricky since the strands are thin? Working on the piece I kept feeling that it was never quite right but *finally* we got there!!

The patterns within this piece represent the letters A/T C/G (see if you can identify them) and the order represents a start codon and then it codes an amino acid. Thanks for commissioning this and being my scientific consultant 😅 (don’t ask me any more science about this piece because I don’t know lol)

I brought this piece to before releasing it online and it was actually my best selling anatomy papercutting!! So now I’m excited to share here and hope you all like this one and the many many hours of hard work that went into making it perfect 🫠😅🥰

Toronto! The infamous Adrian Ave studio sale is back again for 2 days next weekend. Over 15 of us will be opening our doors! I will have discontinued/random/slightly damaged items for up to 90% (!!!) off (and many others in the building have samples/deadstock/big discounts!). There’s even a COFFEE SHOP in our building now where you can get a treat!! And will be with us as well so you can stock up on some protein popcorn!
