Celebrating 38 years of celebrating new Canadians

The Skills for Change Networking and Mentoring Event with BMO on May 28 at First Canadian Place has quietly become one of our most loved events, largely because of how it’s designed. Smaller groups, real conversations, speed mentoring, and space for genuine connection. It doesn’t feel transactional, it feels human.
We began with a meaningful land acknowledgement by Raveena Ramsamy, followed by opening remarks from Paul Noble (General Counsel, Legal and Regulatory Compliance, BMO) and Sampada Kukade (Interim Co-CEO, Skills for Change). They spoke about the journeys behind their organizations, and the role mentorship has played.
From there, the focus shifted to practical insights. Allison Davey (Senior Recruitment Partner, Corporate Areas, BMO) shared honest perspectives on recruitment, what helps you stand out, and how to navigate today’s fast-moving job market. One thing was clear throughout: even as things change, human connection still matters most.
The panel discussion, moderated by Sampada and featuring Allison Davey, Ritu Gupta, Peter Pallanca, and Anisha Hassen was a true highlight. Panelists shared their journeys openly, without filters or fluff - just the challenges, setbacks, and moments that shaped them. Stories of reassurance that it isn’t about polished success stories or perfect paths, resonated deeply across the room.
We wrapped with speed networking, where smaller groups led to more meaningful, in-depth conversations. Attendees connected directly with BMO professionals, asked candid questions, and left with guidance they could put into action.
Many participants shared how much they valued the format. The time to really connect, ask questions, and learn from mentors who were patient, open, and generous with their insights.
A sincere thank you to BMO for their continued partnership, and to the mentors who showed up so thoughtfully and fully. And to everyone who attended. Your engagement is what made this experience what it was.
This is what a strong support system looks like and why it matters!
