An underrated skill many schools and parents don’t teach? Learning to FAIL.
To reflect without ruminating.
To analyze, adapt and turn setbacks into stepping stones.

Did you know that you (and your teen) are designed to learn? 👍
Which option will your teen focus on knowing that we get results where we focus our energy?
This is not a trick question. We don’t ask this flippantly. You control whether you build avoidance and negativity towards
school, learning and yourself OR whether you build engagement and positivity towards school, learning and
yourself. 🤩
However, your teen feels towards school right now does NOT have to be their reality. If they’re not happy, they and they alone can change it. Sure, they have resources - teachers, parents, us! -but at the end of the day, your teen is the ONLY person who can decide whether to create that change for themself.
“The more you focus on gratitude, love and the ever present ‘wins’ in your life, the more easily and sustainably you can make change, learn and build skills, that make you feel GOOD.” - Dr. Kelly McGonigal 🥰
Book a call with our team (link in our bio) to get crystal clear on how they’re ready to absolutely crush it for the rest of the year. 🤩🤩

The stigma is ridiculous - as if high school or even university students are meant to have it all figured out, know how to get and stay organized, write perfectly logical papers, analyze texts or do complex math problems JUST based on what they’ve been taught as one of 20 or 30 in a class. 🤔
And yet so many kids feel embarrassed or insecure asking for help, let alone receiving help with a positive attitude unmarred by feeling “dumb” in some way, or like its punishment for not having done “well” enough. 😖
And when kids get the BEST help, the kind that not only gets them better grades in the short-term but builds the skills they need to thrive in all their subjects, from high school to college and beyond? That gives them total confidence and clarity over their performance in school? They’re downright EXCITED to get help, because they realize it’s not a punishment for falling behind but a vehicle for getting ahead. The stigma of “needing help” is replaced by authentic buy-in and motivation to becoming the best possible thinker and learner they can become.
What are your kids’ attitudes towards receiving help with school? If they’re in the majority who see it as a “bad” thing, how are you changing their minds? Comment and share! 🤩🤩🤩

📣 You’ll want to make sure your teen knows this ...
One of the coolest things about learning how to learn is that your teen gets to do it no matter what school looks like for them. 🤩
Whether they’re back in the classroom, completely online or hybrid - taking 1 class or 8 classes - they have total control over how much (or little) they actually learn and enjoy their education. Not you (the parents), not their teachers, not us - the student has the power here (cool, right?!).
How do we help make this as simple as possible for our students?
Our model integrates directly with school work, and all our trainings are anchored in the logic of learning and skill-building - they can be used in diverse contexts including but not limited to their school’s online curriculum, personal growth projects, standardized test prep, and college research and applications. 🤩
Whether their school is providing online learning, they’re enrolled in something like Khan Academy, or they’re engaged in something else completely, they can apply our principles to continue learning HOW to learn while building the skills they’ll be using for life. 😎
As always, let us know if you have questions. We are here for you! Feel free to either DM us, send us an email, or book a call with us, link is in our bio!

Kelsey here! 👋
If your child isn’t doing as well as they could in school - if they’re struggling with bad grades, motivation, late work, feeling stupid or maybe even ready to give up and feeling like nothing can help - I have good news. ‼️
On November 2nd at 12pm ET, I’m going to walk you through the exact steps we show our clients to skyrocket their confidence and grades, and get rid of anxiety and overwhelm once and for all.
I’m not holding anything back. I’ll be detailing the specific strategies that work for every single student who uses them. What I’m going to show you removes all the guesswork of how your teen can set themselves up to succeed in school (even if they have a learning difference, post-COVID burnout or have struggled for years).
Register using the link in our bio! We can’t wait to see you there!
You’ll want your teen to watch too, and the replay will be available for a couple of days after. 🤩

School was rough for Katie.
The word she uses to describe it is ‘torturous.’ 😞
She was stressed, depressed and anxious all the time. She’d wake up and dread school, every single day. She had ‘the lowest motivation ever’ and couldn’t focus or pay attention. She felt like school was consuming her life and struggled to get good grades, which just caused more stress. 😖
In sophomore year, she switched from her local public school to an online homeschool. This helped in some ways, but also meant she had to really take charge of her schooling, which was difficult for Katie.
Her Mom was asking about school almost every day.
My Mom would be like ‘how’s school? Have you been doing your work? I see you have a missed assignment - what are you gonna do about it?’ …and
“I’d be like ’oh my god Mom get outta my room.’”
“I’d say ‘yea I’m doing it’ but not and going on my phone.”
Katie and her Mom were ready for change by the time they reached out and booked their 1:1 Learning Skills Audit with us (if you’re also ready for a change, you’re invited to book that same call, link in bio)
They said yes to learning how to learn, to practicing new skills and mindsets, and we dove into working together. Fast forward a few weeks and Katie has created a new situation for herself, one that she didn’t really believe was in the cards -
“I had never in a million years thought that any of the things I was struggling with would be able to be aided in any sort of way.” 🤩
Katie’s story illustrates the clear connection between wanting change and acquiring the tools to make it happen. She’s also remarkably articulate and I know her insights will resonate with most of you and a lot of your teens (I’d actually suggest taking a listen together). This video is sitting in the link in our bio under “Komo’s Youtube.”

Grades don’t exist in the real world. When your kid lands their first internship or job, no one cares if they got A’s or C’s in high school. It doesn’t matter.
You know what matters? 🤔
Their ability to:
🌟 think on their feet,
🌟 communicate clearly,
🌟 learn new things,
🌟 manage their time,
🌟stay organized,
🌟not take failure personally
The ease with which they take ownership over their mistakes matters. Whether they can get resourceful when they’re not sure what to do, that matters. Not having such a fragile sense of self that they’re deterred when stuff gets hard, that really matters.
Skills matter. Mindsets matter. Grades they get in subjects don’t matter (though good grades with relative ease are, as we’ve discussed, in reach for every kid with the right skills :)).
Cheers to helping them learn stuff that matters🥰

This visual represents the importance of breaking tasks down into smaller and more manageable tasks. ⭐️✨
Is there something in your life that you break down into smaller tasks?
Let’s take home chores for instance.
Do you ever plan to do ALL the chores in one go with no breaks? That likely seems like A LOT of work. If we’re waiting to find the time and energy to do all of the house chores in one go, it may not happen for a long time, if ever.
If we break it down to do more manageable tasks each day, we’ll start to make some progress, even if it’s a small amount.
When we set goals for ourselves that are unrealistic, we may continue to be stuck. We might not know how to approach the task at hand.
When we break bigger tasks into smaller tasks, not only do we get to celebrate all of the “small” wins along the way, but it actually makes our lives A LOT more manageable.🤩
Click the link in our bio to book a call with us - let’s chat about the importance of celebrating the “small” steps. ❤️

Laurie’s daughter Nicole sailed through middle school and into high school.
When COVID and remote learning hit in her sophomore year, Nicole shut down.
“We were on a pass/fail grade, which made it even worse. She decided she wasn’t going to do anything but the bare minimum for three months and that’s what she did…she went to her room and shut the door and didn’t want to talk to anybody.”
Junior year, knowing they needed a change, they transferred Nicole to an online school (one that had been online for years, with teachers accustomed to teaching remotely). Here, Laurie and her husband were tasked with being Nicole’s learning coach.
“We fought our way through that first semester.”
Then they got her an academic coach to help with time management and organization, but this didn’t have the intended outcome.
“What we realized was Nicole had transferred dependence on me and my husband to dependence on someone else, and that wasn’t what we were looking for.”
With senior year about to start, Laurie knew exactly what she did NOT want:
“I didn’t want another year where I felt like I was dragging her through courses, forcing her to do work, nagging her all the time. Our relationship was just not great. She wasn’t really communicating with us, spending most time in her room.”
They found Komo, booked a call to figure out if it could solve their problem (the same call you’re invited to book here), and kickstarted their daughter’s journey with learning how to learn.

There’s no hoping or wishing when it comes to the tools below. They work for every teen who uses them. Without exception.
Ask your teen - what do they want? If they had to pick ONE thing they can have in the next few days, what would it be? Make sure they understand they’re one decision away from having it.
Each tool produces specific outcomes. What does your teen want the most?
Do they wish they could feel more self-motivated? Have you ‘off their back’? Not feel like a failure or like giving up if they get a bad grade?
Ask your teen - what do they want? If they had to pick ONE thing they can have in the next few days, what would it be? Make sure they understand they’re one decision away from having it.
Showing your kid how to create and manage their own calendar, facilitating the ToE with you and your child, guided self-talk and reflection are things we do every day with our students. If you want to step back while giving your kid the tools to enjoy feeling more motivated, more positive, more willing to communicate openly and respectfully instead of telling you to leave them alone - let’s talk. Click the link in our bio book a call with our team so we can have a conversation about the steps of how exactly to make this happen.

A few big ones we hear are:
“I’m just not good at [insert subject here]”
“I’m no good at school”
“I hate school”
“I don’t need any help, I know what I’m doing” (as they’re clearly suffering)
Teens (and most adults) say and believe things about school and themselves that may not even be true.

What is Komo and why are we different than traditional tutoring or learning centres like Sylvan or Kumon? 🤔💭We created a skills-based approach to school that leads to better learning, less stress and a skill set for life. Sounds like a dream... right!? 🤩🤩🤩
Why did we do this?
1. Everyone wants or expects students to do well in school, but nobody shows them how. The how piece – how to work through assignments, manage time, study properly, set goals, etc. – is key.
2. Schools have a lot on their plate. They do what they can with the resources they have, fulfilling tremendous duties while managing crowded classrooms, curricular constraints and more. The reality is that too often students move from year to year, and ultimately graduate, without developing the practical skills or knowledge they need to thrive in college or their career.
3. Traditional tutoring is not the solution. It’s generally subject-specific, transactional and sought on a remedial basis, all of which actually do students more harm than good.
4. Too many students feel overwhelmed and stressed with school, and too many parents and schools don’t have the resources to solve the problems of their struggling learners. As a result, more students than ever are graduating from high school or university without the skills they need to thrive in school and life.
