submission from Cindy Xu:

"Finders Keepers" is a fashion collective made from all second-hand items. My collection is inspired by and based upon one of the most wasteful, elaborate, and elite events in the world, the English horse-racing festival: the Royal Ascot. After reading each venue's dress codes, I found that it is almost mandatory to bring multiple, single-use outfits to the event as a means for flaunting wealth, and to find style variety in the restrictive dress codes. I challenged myself to make a limited amount of clothing that were both comfortable and versatile to all the venues of the event in order to debunk the belief that luxury must be excessive and wasteful. There are 7 intricate pieces in this collection that I have created out of a dress, a shirt, a pair of pants, and 3 curtains. This collection hopes to elevate thrifting as a means of sustainability through a luxury context.

We wish Cindy the best of luck as she starts her studies at Central Saint Martins - a world-renowned arts and design college πŸ‘πŸ‘

"In 2025, I would like to see environmental justice groups become more inclusive of racialized ethnic hubs such as Chinatown. Instead of imposing the idealogy and language of environmentalism, I hope white environmentalists recognize and honor different traditions and different ways of preserving the planet, and create collaborations with these racialized cultures." πŸ‘πŸ‘

"I'm a community engaged artist, dancer and graffiti artist who believes in the power of art to inspire change and dialogue. My vision is Dancers in the Park - a photo series of dancers owning their right to play in public spaces in the park. I hope to use photography, movement, videography and conversation to create social capital through re-owning our public spaces." - Karen Chan
