Odds are that when cooking, some of you are throwing out (or composting) pure gold! Here at ANC, we believe in using the entire ingredient whenever possible. If you're interested in using more of your ingredients, join us in the Maker Kitchen for a workshop on making the most of your dinner ingredients and eliminating home kitchen waste with Chef Matt Jones of Fifth String Food Truck! Chef Matt is ANCβs Kitchens & Facilities Coordinator and serves up delicious sandwiches and poutines on his food truck around Lansing. In his workshop youβll learn to make a stock, pesto, marsala and chowder with the parts of your usual dinner prep you often canβt find use for, like carrot tops, veggie stems and peels, onion skins, bones and more!

Why Skilled Trades Matter for Newcomers in Canada
An update from Client Choice Foundation
Skilled trades offer newcomers a faster, more practical path to employment and stability in Canada. At Client Choice Foundation, we believe in sharing opportunities that make a real difference.
Hereβs why skilled trades are worth exploring:
π§ High Demand β Canada needs workers in plumbing, construction, electrical, HVAC, and more.
π Shorter Training Time β Most programs are under 1β2 years, many include paid apprenticeships.
π° Strong Earnings β Trades often pay $30/hour or more with experience.
π No Canadian Experience Needed β Skills matter more than a long resume.
π Path to Growth β Skilled trades can lead to permanent jobs, certifications, and even business ownership.
Skilled trades are a smart, respected option β and we encourage newcomers to explore whatβs right for them.
