Big news for Hong Kong! Hong Kong has just been ranked the #1 cross-boundary wealth management centre in the world. According to the Global Wealth Report 2026 released by Boston Consulting Group on May 27, Hong Kong tops the global rankings for cross-boundary wealth management. But that’s not all – the report also projects that the cross-boundary wealth managed by Hong Kong will grow at an average annual rate of 9% from 2025 to 2030, keeping its lead globally.

A strong vote of confidence in Hong Kong’s position as a world-leading cross-boundary wealth management hub.

【ScED attends the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Trade Ministers Meeting in Suzhou 】

The Secretary of Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau attended the two-day APEC Trade Ministers Meeting in Suzhou, encouraged the member economies to continue supporting the multilateral trading system and deepening regional economic integration.

Director-General of Trade and Industry, Mr Aaron Liu also attended the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) China Year, of the theme of “building the Asia-Pacific community and promoting common prosperity.”

In his speech, Secretary Yau noted that, in the time of environmental uncertainty and rising protectionism, multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core provides the much-needed stability, transparency and predictability to international trade. He encouraged the other trade ministers to build on the progress made at the 14th WTO Ministerial Meeting, to accelerate progress on a number of important outstanding issues.

Secretary Yau said that the APEC member economies have been pushing for trade liberalization in various ways, and the Asia-Pacific free trade agreement (APTA) is one of the long-term visions for deepening the regional economic integration. Hong Kong fully supports the country’s development of the APTA this year, giving new momentum to the initiative and demonstrating the ability of the APEC to lead the way.

In addition, Secretary Yau stressed that Hong Kong has been actively seeking to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) the soonest possible, contributing to advance the APTA agenda. He is looking forward to the next major milestone for RECP, setting up a “joining committee” for Hong Kong as soon as possible in 2026, and continuing support for Hong Kong’s application to join the RCEP.

During the meeting, Secretary Yau took the opportunity to meet with China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, Li Cheng-gang and Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri, to exchange views on issues of mutual concerns. He also met with the Mayor of Suzhou, Wang Wei, to introduce the latest initiatives to promote Hong Kong’s economic development.
