Sad News: Dr. Atsumi Ohno has passed away

I received the following sad news yesterday of Dr. Atsumi Ohno's death from Hiroshi Soda who ran the University of Toronto Ohno Continuous Casting (OCC) Research Lab.

Dear Steven,
I want to let you know that Dr Ohno passed away on April 13 in his
sleep. He was 92.
It was sad news but a lot of good memories remain.

Dr. Atsumi Ohno was a dear family friend. My father, Dr. Robert Huang, first met Dr. Ohno while both were doing their PHD studies in engineering at University of Toronto in the early 1960s. Dr. Ohno went back to Japan to start his research activities in Metallurgical Engineering at the Chiba Institute. My father became a Professor of Chemical Engineering at University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada) specializing in polymer membranes.

We had fun upgrading a set of vintage JBL loudspeakers.

I had the opportunity to see an amazing new female artist in concert over the weekend.

Her name is Jessie Ware and I have been following her for months after first seeing her perform on KCRW.com earlier this year.

Her initial album ‘Devotion’ was released in the UK last year to rave reviews. Virtually unknown on this side of the Atlantic Ocean, she is currently on a North American tour to promote the re-release of Devotion on April 16th (in both CD and vinyl formats).
