🏒 What has become a cherished Thanksgiving tradition for many young people at Covenant House returned this week as members of the Toronto Maple Leafs joined us for an afternoon of fun activities, games, and a delicious Thanksgiving meal, generously provided by MLSE Foundation.

Thank you Toronto Maple Leafs and MLSE Foundation for visiting us again and helping make Thanksgiving season so special for the young people. 💙

As part of our ongoing commitment to learning and reconciliation, staff from across the organization recently participated in a traditional Indigenous sweat lodge ceremony, led by Harry Snowboy of Strong Earth, Elder-in-Residence, Healer, and Ceremonial Traditional Knowledge Keeper.

The experience offered staff an opportunity to learn from Indigenous teachings, connect with the land, and reflect how they can support Indigenous youth at Covenant House in reconnecting with culture, community, and identity to build thriving futures.

🧡 Tomorrow, we join people across Canada in recognizing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day: a time to honour Residential School Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the truths and legacies that continue to shape our communities today.

We encourage everyone to mark this important day through reflection, conversation, learning, and by wearing orange in recognition that Every Child Matters.

Learning is one of the many ways we deepen our understanding of the truth and advance reconciliation.

Throughout this month, youth and staff at Covenant House have been taking part in conversations hosted by our Indigenous Working Group, creating opportunities to learn about Indigenous histories, experiences and perspectives and to reflect on their enduring impact today.

These conversations are part of our ongoing commitment to creating inclusive and welcoming community where Indigenous youth experiencing homelessness can strengthen connections to culture, community, and identity as they build brighter futures.

Yesterday, Covenant House Toronto and Bau-Xi Gallery welcomed the community to Museum of the Unbreakable, an exhibition that shares the stories, aspirations and resilience of young people through personal belongings that hold special meaning.

Some of the young people featured have long since moved beyond Covenant House and are thriving in their communities. Others are taking important steps toward independence today. Each journey is different, but they share a common belief: their future was not defined by their circumstances.

That's the heart of Home of the Unbreakable.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. If you haven’t visited, there's still time to experience the powerful stories it shares. The exhibit will be open throughout the weekend, September 26 and 27, 10:00 AM-5:30 PM.

Our team recently celebrated the incredible achievements of the young people in Rights of Passage, our on-site transitional housing program.

Whether it's completing a course, earning a certification, finding a job, obtaining a driver's licence, or achieving a personal goal, every milestone represents resilience, growth, and a step toward an independent future.
