ACT Closure

After more than 40 years of service to people living with and affected by HIV in Toronto, the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) is preparing to close its doors at the end of March. In recent months, we’ve been reflecting on what this organization has meant, not just as an institution, but as a community of people.

Throughout ACT’s history, one thing has always mattered most: people.

To our service users: thank you for trusting us in moments of vulnerability and strength. You shaped ACT in ways you may never fully see and reminded us every day why this work matters.

To our staff, past and present: thank you for showing up with compassion, professionalism, and care, even through uncertainty. The true impact of ACT lives in the conversations you had, the dignity you upheld, and the quiet ways you supported others when it mattered most.

To our volunteers: you are the origin of ACT’s story. From welcoming faces in the Access Centre, to facilitating support groups, outreach in bars and bathhouses, and supporting our fundraising — thank you for your passion and care.

And to our donors, funders, partners, and community allies: thank you for standing with ACT through decades of crisis, change, and progress. Your belief in this work ensured our community had support when it was needed most.

ACT existed during times when fear and stigma were overwhelming and community action was essential. Across those decades, what stands out is a steady commitment to care, dignity, community, and a little sex-positivity along the way. ❤️

This work is not finished. The need for accessible treatment, prevention, and stigma reduction continues, and today’s environment calls for stronger coordination and collaboration.

ACT’s legacy is not measured in programs alone. It lives in people - in lives supported, stigma challenged, and moments when someone felt less alone because ACT existed.

As this chapter closes, there is sadness but also deep gratitude. The values that shaped ACT will continue in the people and organizations carrying this work forward.

ACT is closing, but what it stood for continues in all of us.

ACT - Office Hours Update

Starting March 1, 2026, the ACT office will be closed on Mondays & Fridays. Services will be offered virtual only on those days.

The ACT office will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 10am to 6pm.

ACT will permanently close at the end of day on March 26, 2026.

ACT is honoured to receive recognition from Mayor Olivia Chow and the City of Toronto for our 43 years of work supporting people living with, and at risk of, HIV and AIDS.

This work has always been grounded in community, compassion, and the belief that everyone deserves dignity and care. We are grateful to all the colleagues, partners, and community members who have walked this journey with us.

Celebrating Black History Month

This February, we honor the strength, brilliance, and resilience of Black communities; past, present, and future. Black leaders, advocates, and changemakers have shaped the fight for health equity and HIV justice, pushing forward with courage and vision.

We recognize the disproportionate impact HIV continues to have on Black communities and remain committed to expanding access to care, breaking down stigma, and championing compassionate, community‑centered support.
