Maryam, a recent Humber Early Childhood Education graduate and mom of three, was inspired to become an educator after navigating challenges finding inclusive learning environments for her two children on the autism spectrum.

Through Humber’s program, she developed equity focused teaching skills and gained hands-on experience in toddler care, kindergarten, and Grade 1 classrooms with the Peel District School Board and Toronto District School Board.

After graduating with honours and receiving the Board of Governors Award last June, Maryam is continuing her education to become a certified teacher and hopes to open a learning centre of her own.

Their process included analyzing the existing building, understanding its layout and character, planning how a new addition could connect with the original structure, selecting materials, and creating a physical model of their final design.

Inspired by the idea of convergence, their project explored how the built environment, nature and people can come together to create a more connected space.
