Subscriptions can be sneaky.

A few dollars for an app, a streaming service, a delivery membership, or a free trial that quietly turned into a monthly charge may not seem like much on its own. Recurring expenses can add up quickly, especially heading into a busier season.

Before fall routines settle in, take a few minutes to review what you are still paying for. Keep what you use, cancel what you don't, and watch for charges you forgot were there.

When was the last time you reviewed your subscriptions?

Back-To-School Donation Drive πŸ“šβœοΈ

As the new school year approaches, we’re coming together to support local students and families through a Back-To-School Donation Drive benefiting Yellow Brick House.

πŸ“ Drop-Off Location: Tenant Lounge
πŸ“… Dates: August 1–31

Most-needed items include backpacks, notebooks and lined paper, pens, pencils, markers, highlighters, pencil cases, calculators, binders, folders, glue sticks, scissors, crayons, coloured pencils, lunch bags, and reusable water bottles.

Every donation, big or small, can help a student start the school year feeling prepared, confident, and ready to learn. Together, we can help local children head back to school with the tools they need to thrive. πŸ’œ

Teaching kids about money doesn't have to involve sitting them down for a formal lesson.

Everyday moments can help children understand saving, spending, budgeting, needs versus wants, and making choices with money. A grocery trip, an allowance conversation, or even a delayed purchase can become a simple way to build financial literacy at home.

For more helpful, kid-friendly financial education, check out the Money Thing videos by Currency Marketing on the Luminus Financial website.

Back-to-school costs can pile up quickly, but a little planning in August can make September feel less chaotic.

Start with the expenses you already know are coming, check what you already have, and spread out purchases that don't need to happen right away. Make sure to also leave a small buffer for the school costs that tend to show up after the first day.

What school expense catches you off guard most often?

Automating savings works because it removes one of the hardest parts: remembering to save.

A small recurring transfer builds momentum. Ten dollars a week becomes $40 in a month, $120 in three months, and $520 in a year.

You don't need to overhaul your whole budget to make progress. One small recurring transfer can give your savings a steady place to start.

Could you automate $10 a week this month?

Fall routines can bring new expenses, busier schedules, and a lot of small money decisions.

A quick financial reset can help you feel more organized before the season gets away from you. Start by reviewing what has changed, checking subscriptions, choosing one savings priority, automating a small transfer, and planning for the costs you know are coming.

Save this checklist for your next money check-in!

Halfway through the year is a good time to get a clearer picture of where your money is going.

Your spending may look different than it did in January. Groceries, gas, childcare, subscriptions, takeout, summer plans, and everyday β€œsmall” purchases can all change the shape of your budget. Sometimes your priorities shift too, and your spending follows.

A quick spending check-in can help you ask:

What costs more than it used to?
What am I spending on more often?
What still feels worth it?
What could I adjust for the next few months?

Awareness is a useful first step. Once you know what has changed, it is easier to decide what still fits your budget, and what may need a reset.

Have your spending habits changed since January? Share one thing you’ve noticed about your budget in the comments. πŸ‘‡

First-time buyer? Start here.

Buying a home can feel exciting, but the mortgage process can bring up a lot of unfamiliar terms and decisions quickly.

Our new blog post, β€œMortgage Basics for First-Time Buyers Who Feel Overwhelmed,” breaks down the basics in plain language, including pre-approval, fixed versus variable rates, and costs to plan for beyond the down payment.

Mortgage language can feel intimidating at first, especially when you are hearing terms like pre-approval, fixed rate, variable rate, and closing costs all at once.

The good news? You don't have to learn everything at the same time. Start with the basics, ask questions, and focus on understanding what each term means for your real budget.

A clearer understanding of mortgage terms can help you feel more prepared before taking the next step.
