Congratulations to Coach Liam on committing to play USports Canada West hockey at the University of Manitoba!
Liam will be joining the Bisons this upcoming fall after graduating from the OJHL with a Buckland Cup after 3 years where he split time with the Aurora Tigers and Toronto Patriots!

The net is a defenseman’s best friend on a puck retrieval.
When you’re racing back under heavy pressure, the net shouldn’t be looked at as an obstacle, it’s a physical shield. If you aren’t using the net to manipulate the forecheck, you’re making the game way harder than it needs to be.
Here are 3 tactical reasons to use the net to your advantage:
1️⃣ It ruins the forechecker’s angle: Cutting tight to the post or skating directly across the crease forces F1 to take a wider, longer route to get to you. That extra split-second is exactly what you need to pick up the puck, get your head up, and make a play.
2️⃣ It’s the ultimate deception tool: The net is the perfect visual barrier to sell fakes. Use a shoulder check to sell the idea that you’re wrapping around one side. The second the attacker commits, use a hard escape turn or a reverse pass. Because the net is in their way, they can’t adjust their line to recover.
3️⃣ It eliminates heavy contact: A direct line along the boards gives a forechecker a free run at you. Bringing the play tight to the net framework kills their momentum. They either have to slow down to navigate the tight space or risk skating into the goal frame, giving you maximum protection to make a clean breakout pass.
Stop running from pressure. Dictate it.
