JUST IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Nigeria and Cameroon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral defence cooperation aimed at enhancing security along their shared border and strengthening maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.
The agreement was signed in Yaoundé by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, and Cameroon’s Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Assomo, following two days of deliberations by defence and security experts from both countries.
The MoU establishes a comprehensive framework for cooperation in both terrestrial and maritime domains, with a focus on addressing emerging security challenges affecting the two neighbouring countries.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the officials reaffirmed their commitment to deepening military collaboration and promoting regional stability through coordinated security efforts.
The agreement provides for enhanced intelligence sharing, operational coordination, logistics support, joint military training, personnel exchange programmes and collective response mechanisms to evolving threats.
The pact is expected to strengthen border security, improve interoperability between the armed forces of both countries and bolster efforts to combat transnational crimes, terrorism, piracy and other security challenges within the region.
The two countries also pledged to sustain regular engagements between their defence and security institutions to ensure effective implementation of the agreement.
Nigeria and Cameroon share extensive land and maritime boundaries and have maintained longstanding security cooperation, particularly in efforts to combat terrorism, insurgency and criminal activities in the Lake Chad Basin and the Gulf of Guinea.
Defence officials from both countries expressed optimism that the new framework would further consolidate bilateral relations and contribute to peace, security and economic development across the region.

BRIEF REPORTS: Nigerian Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued a woman and two children who escaped from captivity in the Sambisa Forest following sustained military operations against terrorist groups in the North-East.
Security said the escapees were received by troops of the 114 Battalion at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Izge, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The rescued individuals were identified as Falmatu Ibrahim, 30, Yabo Modu, 7, and Sadiq Modu, 4.
According to the sources, the trio escaped from Gazua in the Damboa axis of the Sambisa Forest and made their way to the military position in Izge.
Falmatu told security personnel during preliminary debriefing that sustained military pressure on terrorist enclaves created an opportunity for them to flee captivity.
She further revealed that she is a native of Konduga Local Government Area and was abducted by terrorists on the outskirts of Dalori about a year ago.
The rescued individuals were screened and documented by security personnel and are currently in the custody of the 26 Task Force Brigade for further administrative procedures and support.
Military authorities said the development underscores the impact of ongoing counter-insurgency operations, which continue to weaken terrorist strongholds and facilitate the escape of captives held in remote forest locations.
The general security situation across the North-East theatre remains calm but unpredictable, while troops maintain high morale and operational effectiveness in ongoing operations.

ISWAP terrorists attack on Biu LGA ended in disaster as Bello Turji half brother, several terrorists suyanized.
REPORTS: The Unstoppable Nigerian Troops have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and inflicted heavy casualties on the insurgents during a decisive counter-offensive in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Military sources said the attacks occurred in the early hours of Thursday when ISWAP fighters launched simultaneous assaults on troops’ positions at Dusten Kura and Chara Road in the Buratai axis of southern Borno.
According to the sources, the terrorists attempted to overrun the military locations but were met with stiff resistance from alert troops who had detected their movement through intelligence-driven surveillance.
The sources said troops immediately engaged the insurgents with superior firepower while coordinating a robust air and ground response that ultimately forced the terrorists into a disorderly retreat.
“The terrorists launched multiple attacks on troops’ locations at Dusten Kura and Chara Road in Buratai. However, alert troops, supported by credible intelligence, swiftly detected the incursion and responded with overwhelming force.
“The coordinated response involved both ground troops and the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, resulting in heavy casualties on the terrorists and the disruption of their attack plans,” the statement said.
Military sources disclosed that the Air Component played a critical role in the operation through the deployment of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets, as well as precision strike platforms of the Nigerian Air Force.
The aerial assets reportedly tracked the movement of the terrorists, provided real-time intelligence to ground forces and conducted precision strikes on identified enemy positions.
The integrated air-ground operation, according to the military, significantly degraded the terrorists’ fighting capability and prevented them from gaining any tactical advantage.
“The seamless integration of air and ground forces proved decisive. Precision air support disrupted the terrorists’ assault and inflicted severe losses on their personnel and equipment,” the statement added.
The military further revealed that no casualties were recorded among troops during the encounter, a development attributed to the preparedness, professionalism and combat effectiveness of personnel involved in the operation.
Security analysts say the successful defence of the military positions further highlights the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and joint-force coordination in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign across the North-East.
The latest operation comes amid sustained offensive actions by Operation HADIN KAI aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, disrupting logistics networks and denying insurgents freedom of movement across the theatre.
Military authorities reiterated that troops remained on high alert and would continue aggressive operations to neutralise terrorist elements and prevent them from regrouping.
The Theatre Command also urged residents of communities across the North-East to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information capable of assisting ongoing operations.
According to the command, public cooperation remains critical to sustaining gains recorded in the fight against terrorism and restoring lasting peace to the region.
“The Theatre Command remains committed to maintaining relentless pressure on terrorists and ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens throughout the North-East theatre of operations,” the statement said.
Operation HADIN KAI has, in recent months, intensified offensive operations against terrorist groups operating in Borno, Yobe and parts of Adamawa States, resulting in the neutralisation of several insurgents, recovery of weapons and destruction of terrorist logistics infrastructure.
