Happy Lohri to everyone celebrating 🔥🥜🎉
I was invited to perform at Ottawa’s first ever Lohri celebration and not only did sell it out once, but TWICE!!!
I arrived early for soundcheck with and , then had a quick rehearsal with on dhol before enjoying amazing food from and !
Once the bonfire was lit, the dancers from started the party IN A BLIZZARD and kept dancing until everyone had thrown in their offerings.
Back inside, I was transformed into a literal princess with henna skills and a parandi braid. 🥹🙏
What an incredible night of getting to party in my home town and I’m so glad to have been included in the celebrations!

- “I’m a beginner I shouldn’t even start”
- “I’m not as good as _____ so I shouldn’t even start show up to the jam”
- “That seems hard so I’m not going to try”
- “I’m not going to make that reel until I get the song PERFECT”
The myth of perfection keeps us all in a constant state of Imposter Syndrome where you don’t think your progress is worth sharing.
SO
That’s why I came up with First Take Friday. Whenever I’m in a musical funk and being too critical of myself, I force myself to just do ONE TAKE and have FUN with it.
Otherwise it’s easy to fall into the trap of “One more take…”
