📍O'Noir Toronto / @onoirtoronto . Your sign to enjoy a delicious filet mignon in pitch black darkness! A one of a kind dining experience, takes you into a pitch black room to enjoy your choice of apps/entree/dessert and truly engage your senses. Apps are a "surprise" , you can choose meat, veggie or seafood as your choice, and they'll bring out a surprise app that you'll have loads of fun guessing through touch & taste. They have this option for the entree too, or you can choose the specific meal you want. . Servers are visually impaired, and frankly the service was excellent and attentive compared to some servers with 20/20 vision in other places #iykyk . Filet mignon & mashed potatoes were excellent and surpassed our expectations. The risotto was a bit too dry for our liking but the buttery shrimp was a saviour. Chocolate cake was also on the drier side and a bit bland. Overall, come for the amazing experience & filet mignon to match vs. the overall food, a must try! . I’ve been to many restaurants in my life but @onoirtoronto must be the most unique one I’ve visited. It’s been six days since my visit and I still cannot stop thinking and talking about it. Food isn’t the main point of the experience. It’s the darkness! For one hour, while eating, you get to experience what it is like to be visually impaired. Complete darkness. Not a speck of light. Absolutely no visual stimuli. You are served by visually impaired waiters and they help you along the way. For an even more unique experience, you can order surprise meals, so you get to use your other senses to figure out what you are eating. I am already planning my second visit and I want to bring my mom and possibly my daughter. I highly recommend trying this out. Absolutely amazing and unique activity! 🌙 Dining in the Dark at @onoirtoronto 📍 620 Church St, Toronto, ON This was one of the most unique dining experiences we’ve ever had and one we highly recommend! Imagine enjoying a full-course meal in complete darkness, relying only on your other senses to guide you. Without sight, every flavor, texture, and aroma becomes so much more intense, making each bite even more memorable. We tried the steak frites, fish with vegetables, surprise meat starters, and surprise desserts. I couldn’t quite figure out what the starter was, but it was absolutely delicious. And the steak? Happy 17th anniversary to O.NOIR, Toronto's one and only permanent dine-in-the-dark dining experience! 🥳 Inspired by Blindekuh—the world's first dark restaurant opened by a blind Swiss pastor in 1999—founder Moe Alameddine brought the dine-in-the-dark concept to Canada. He launched the first O.NOIR in Montreal in 2006 to blend sensory dining with advocacy for the visually impaired, and its success quickly led to a 2nd location in Toronto in 2009 We tried: 👉 Starter: $10.95 👉 Main Dish: $29.95 👉 Dessert: $10.95 Before stepping into the shadows, you place your order in the lit lobby. (Tip: if you aren't a picky eater, definitely go for the "Surprise" dishes—trying to blindly guess what we were eating was half the fun!) After ordering, our server, Elias, led us into the pitch-black dining room by having us hold onto his shoulder to navigate ​We started with the Surprise Meat (chicken curry and rice, which was tricky to guess!) and the Surprise Seafood (fried calamari, a much easier guess) 🦑 Dining in the dark really amplifies your senses and keeps you engaged with every bite! For mains, we ordered the Filet Mignon and the Shrimp Risotto. Although the protein portions were small and the steak was a little salty, the beef was perfectly tender 🥩 We wrapped up with two small but sweet desserts: Dark Chocolate Cake and a surprise slice of cheesecake 🍰 Such a unique experience! O.NOIR brilliantly combines a hyper-focused, sensory-heightened meal in complete darkness with meaningful social advocacy by employing visually impaired waitstaff. Dining in the Dark! This was an incredibly unique experience which I would highly recommend. Enjoy a full meal in complete darkness, with only the sound of your voices accompanied by a phenomenal meal The food was incredibly delicious - with one of your senses (sight) not being activated, it does also enhance the other senses including your tastebuds which was astonishing The servers there are visually impaired, so this experience also gives you an insight to their day to day lives.
