Little Barn Laneway Suite ⌂ Toronto

The owner of this Beaconsfield village property wanted to convert the existing 300 square feet garage into a two story one-bedroom laneway suite. Despite its size this tiny home is a comfortable space with clear and minimalist lines. Every feature of the design has a function, whether it is a hidden cabinet in the extra deep wall, a shelf as part of the stair structure.

This was one of our first projects, conversion of a 1880’s single family dwelling into a fully renovated home with three apartments. A significant amount of the budget was spent on invisible systems like radiant floor heating, ventilation and cooling systems so we had to get creative with exterior and interior finishes. We focused on customized made-to-fit pieces using salvaged materials which give this space its crafty identity.

McCormick House Landscaping ⌂ Toronto

This Outdoor Living Room replaced an outdated parking pad in the rear of our client's property.
The tiny space is defined by the sloping terrain and nestled against surrounding buildings. A quiet, urban oasis with pollinator and mini veggie garden, and a west facing deck for the young family to enjoy. Large metal planters, cedar decking and cement board fencing combined with pea gravel and existing concrete pavers create a timeless look and cozy feeling.

Wilson House ⌂ Toronto

Our Wilson House clients were looking to update their home to satisfy the needs of a growing family with young children. They asked us to create a unifying and bright space with multifunctional use.

We decided to re-locate the kitchen to the center of the house and removed all adjacent non-load bearing walls to connect it to the remaining space and to allow for the eastern and western light to enter deep into the space. We created an additional bathroom by reducing the existing one in size and taking over some extra closet space from the large primary bedroom to allow all family members to manage the morning rush simultaneously and in piece.

The project faced some budget restrictions, which resulted in innovative and cost-effective design solutions. Rather than doing costly structural changes to the existing home we created large openings in existing walls and celebrated the remaining structural elements. The blue shaded feature wall was born and became a memorable design element of the home.

Beaconsfield Village House ⌂ Toronto

3rd floor addition. Adding another floor to a home is a great way to gain space without sacrificing precious lot coverage. The owners of our Beaconsfield Village House asked for an open concept and multi functional space on the 3rd floor. We created an airy and light flooded space by introducing strategically placed skylights and a bi-fold door system opening the room to a south/west facing balcony. A concealed HVAC system with custom air registers and integrated storage emphasizes the minimalist aesthetics of the space.
