I’m Nominating May 7th as “thank your audition reader day. These days many of us are relying on friends, colleagues and fellow actors to read with us..but choosing the right reader for the project is actually a big decision a reader can make or break your audition..especially since these days your reader is also very likely your de facto coach!

So for this project I’m glad the beautiful and talented Hillary Ward was willing to read with me. As a mature, multi hyphenated artist her self she knew just what to say to keep me calm, challenged, and the work moving forward. Sounds simple enough but it’s actually a finely honed skill set…and in the right circumstances highly valuable.

Happy to say my Reps were really pleased with this submission…I was too. Can’t thank you enough Hillary..you’re the best!!

As actors we get paid to hide the “work” but working on the work is nonetheless…work and for that you need the outside eye of either a skilled director, teacher or coach..no one gets there on the own…

For this audition I was tired, and more than a little frustrated..but thankfully my bredren would not let me quit on myself or take my foot of the gas.

At the time I was as Joy Juckes put it..the process of “completely reimagining how my voice works on camera..”which in many ways meant going back to square one and no matter how you cut it adopting a beginners mind set always sucks but Michael kept putting me through my paces..and although at the time is was not loving the ass kicking I recognized were it was coming from so we stayed in the fire for several hours..so committed was he that he cancelled a physical therapy appointment to get me over the hump..if love is an action that’s what it looks like .

That investment turned out to be a huge gift as the intensity and rigor allowed me to integrate a lot of what I had been working on with Joy. In this game we get nothing for free you earn every inch of ground but with the right people in your corner the grind is always worthwhile! Much love and respect King!
