THE SCOOP | The Canadian Opera Company’s Free Concert Series Is Back For 2026/27 - Classical FM The Canadian Opera Company’s Free Concert Series is back for a 20th season, starting on on September 23, 2026, with an expanded format.

“I’m having an amazing summer in Toronto for the first time in a while! It’s been so wonderful to see friends and family, find some downtime, hit the beach, learn new music, and facilitate professional development programming for some lovely artist training programs. Most recently, I had the pleasure of working with the Marigold Music Program, an incredible organization providing accessible, high-quality music education and opportunities to young people, and the wonderful artists participating in the Canadian Opera Company’s Summer Opera Intensive.” 🌞🎶

Team Summer Check-In! Next up: our Music Director, Evan Mitchell, catching his breath after a busy season and gearing up for what’s ahead. ☀️

“This summer, when I’m not already silently freaking out over the pile of work I have to get through before the season starts, I relax with the finest of video games. Currently taking a quick return to Silksong, a masterpiece. But when reality comes crashing in, the shows I need to set the most time aside for preparation are the films live in concert I have upcoming. I’m likely Canada’s most prolific conductor of this type of concert, and my shelves are straining from the weight of these crazy 11x17 scores. This year marks 38 films in my repertoire, and here’s a pic of 6 of the 7 films live in concert I’ll be conducting between September and the end of the year. Not pictured yet is Edward Scissorhands because the materials haven’t been finished yet, this will be a Canadian premiere!”
