Today I volunteered with Iranian seniors in Toronto.
They wrote messages and placed them on a map of Iran.
For many, this map is all that’s left of home.
They don’t know if they’ll ever return—not because they don’t want to, but because they can’t.
This is what long-term displacement looks like.
This is the cost of a regime that turns its own people into exiles.
A map on a wall.
A lifetime of loss.
And a country that still belongs to them—even if it refuses to let them return.

Translation of the messages:

«استقامت و پایداری رمز پیروزی است»
“Endurance and perseverance are the key to victory.”

«ایران عزیزم را به خدا می‌سپارم (آمین)»
“I entrust my beloved Iran to God (Amen).”

«آرزوی آزادی از دل همه‌ی مردم»
“A wish for freedom from the heart of all the people.”



امروز با گروهی از سالمندان ایرانی در تورنتو داوطلبانه همکاری کردم.
از آن‌ها خواسته شد یک پیام کوتاه بنویسند و آن را روی نقشه‌ی ایران بچسبانند.
برای بسیاری از آن‌ها، این نقشه نزدیک‌ترین چیزی‌ست که امروز به «خانه» دارند.
نمی‌دانند آیا هرگز بازخواهند گشت یا نه. بعضی می‌دانند که هرگز نخواهند توانست.
تماشای نوشتنشان—آرام و با دقت—هم دلگرم‌کننده بود و هم دل‌شکن.
این تنها کاری‌ست که در این لحظه می‌توانند انجام دهند.
و به شکلی عجیب، همین برایشان همه‌چیز است.

“Teen photo sessions can be… a little awkward at first 😅
They don’t always want to pose — they freeze up, or give me that ‘are we done yet?’ face.
So instead, I bring the fun!
I’ll hand them their dog, start a little game, or just chat about something they love.
And that’s when it happens — the real smiles, the real spark.
Because when they forget the camera… that’s when the magic shows up ✨📸”

As this year closes, my heart is full of gratitude.

to those who stood by me, believed in me, and didn’t walk away when the road became heavy.
I want to thank myself too—for choosing to stay, to keep going, to rise again and again, no matter how hard it got.
