In today’s Level Up session, we created a space to remember who we are:
rooted, capable, connected.
We learned the tools.
We shared the truth.
We built community in real time.
Because when Black youth know their rights and know their history,
systems have to shift.
What happens when Black girls across Toronto come together to celebrate, connect, and be seen?
This highlight from the TCDSB BRAVE Conference, organized by captures powerful moments of unity, self-discovery, and community building through workshops on culture, identity, and empowerment
Themes Explored:
Affirming Black identity in Catholic education
The power of belonging and representation
Hair, heritage, and intergenerational connection
Building community across schools through shared leadership
Equity in action — creating safe and brave spaces
This conference reflects the heart of the TCDSB’s Equity and Belonging Plan , a living example of what happens when young women are affirmed, supported, and inspired to lead.

Join us this Thursday, Sept 25th for the screening of IHAMBA — a powerful documentary amplifying the voices of the Batwa people of Uganda, also known as the “forest peoples.”
Once guardians of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the Batwa were forcibly evicted in the early 1990s for gorilla conservation and tourism. IHAMBA puts their voices at the centre, exposing the human cost of conservation while celebrating their resilience, cultural memory, and ongoing fight for justice.
Developed in close collaboration with Batwa communities, the film honours their deep connection to the forest as a source of food, medicine, and spirituality, a connection that cannot be erased.
📅 Thursday, Sept 25 | 7–9PM EST

Big energy in the building today!
We had the honour of welcoming to the Response Ability Program — a true leader whose journey from coaching champions in Burundi to becoming an official Raptors radio announcer during the 2019 NBA Finals -present is nothing short of powerful.
From homelessness to hope, Patrick reminded our youth that resilience, mindset, and community are game-changers on and off the court.
Salute to this living example of what it means to respond, not react 💯
