A modern chapter for a storied club. And now, an award-winning one!

Our work for has received a W3 Award for website design.

This project challenged us to create a digital experience that was as versatile and welcoming as the Club itself. To tell the story of both the vibrant events and gatherings that the club hosts today, and the century of history its walls contain.

Today our team will be offline in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This is a day for reflection and action: to honour survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and acknowledge the lasting impacts of residential schools.

At Significant Other, we are committed to following the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. We encourage our community to do the same:

Valentine’s is a time for celebrating the relationships that matter. For us, that means all of the incredible teams we have the opportunity to collaborate with. In honour of those partnerships, our team created a selection of postcards that recipients can use to send their own thoughts of appreciation to the people that matter to them.

Meet Anika ( ), designer at Significant Other.

As far as Anika can remember, she has always had a deep appreciation for the arts. Creativity runs in her family. That must be why she’s so good at finding meaningful solutions that also happen to be stunningly beautiful.

“I am lucky to have a cousin and an uncle who are graphic designers, and my dad studied architecture - my family has always told me that I can do whatever I wanted, as long as I am good at it. They created an environment that encouraged me, and allowed me to explore my passions. 

I remember telling my Dad that I had applied for design school, and one of the first things he did was share his tracing paper and books on architecture drawing. 

I knew I had the opportunities and the support to pursue any career path I chose, which I have always been really grateful for.”

Another win to share: our work on the National Oral Health Strategy, which aims to advance the health of Canadians in the face of a rapidly changing world, has won a Bronze in the Health Research Projects or Publications category. 

Over the years we’ve supported health research strategies at the provincial, federal, and international levels, and though the issues may be complex, the outcomes are very real: improved funding and enhanced resources for government and non-government led health initiatives that improve the lives of millions.

Meet Adrian (), Senior Developer and Development Team Lead at SO. His passion for the web began as a child when he built fan sites for his favorite hobbies. He has gained over 10 years of agency and freelance experience and enjoys projects pushing his technical and creative boundaries.

As the development team lead, Adrian’s role requires him to balance mentorship, focus time, and being more hands-on with clients. “Sometimes it is nice to sit down and get in some focus time, you know, dedicated time for programming where you can put some music on and get into a flow state for a few hours or a day, and get s**t done - there is something satisfying about that. But being on client calls where you are presenting something or training a team on a new product; it is really satisfying to see them use something you’ve just laboured over for a few weeks or months.

It’s always fun, we have really good clients here at SO. They’re always very appreciative of the work that we do and are great partners throughout the process.”
