The new guidelines now require federally regulated financial institutions to vet applications for uninsured mortgages by using a minimum qualifying rate equal to the greater of the Bank Of Canada’s five-year benchmark rate currently at 5.14 percent. Depending on if you can pass the stress test for the home you want will determine whether you can purchase your dream home, or settle for one that is less extravagant.
