🖼 Nearby, a staircase by Snaige Sileika, part of our current exhibition Where We’re at Now – Another Conversation by The Gibson Girls
“Nearby” is a series of small paintings developed from sketches made during outings with the Gibson Girls. These works focus on overlooked details, isolating moments where the natural world brushes up against the built-up environment. Each initial sketch establishes a compositional framework that is then translated into layered colour, line, and texture. Together, the paintings invite a deeper look at the quiet intersections of nearby spaces.

🖼 Trenton by Liz Parkinson, part of our current exhibition Where We’re at Now – Another Conversation by The Gibson Girls | This piece is part of Liz Parkinson's Slow Down series.
Slow Down records Ash trees seen over multiple years along the 401 corridor as they successively succumbed to the Emerald Ash Borer. Glimpsed at speed, the silhouettes are rendered in remembrance as lost specimens. Pinehill, in contrast, sketched at a local cemetery, evokes other modes of mourning imagery.

✨ Meet Mo So, one of Propeller Art Gallery’s talented artist members, whose fine art photography explores the world through a distinctive lens.
“My images are mostly printed on canvas. My dual life as a surgeon and photographer is in a constant state of flux. I hide behind my pseudonym on the basis of shyness about my art and to maintain some separation of my two personas. Photography and travel have always been major imperatives in my life. In recent years, my profession and my art have started melding. The natural draw during travel toward landscape and architectural photography has morphed into greater interest in evocative street and human photography. I operate on faces so the metamorphosis was likely inevitable.
Capturing the magic moment in a photo begins the process. Transforming the capture into powerful, relatable imagery aims to evoke a visceral and vibrant experience. My vision of my images employs a heightened realistic style that preserves the recognizability to the viewer while encouraging their own imagination and storytelling to look beyond the surface complexity.”

🖼 The Seekers by Yael Brotman, part of our current exhibition Where We’re at Now – Another Conversation by The Gibson Girls
Brotman’s imagery acknowledges humanity’s ingenuity in constructing shelters and conveniences for ourselves, while juxtaposing images of nature’s resilience as antidotes to harm that our inventions can inflict. This subtext is layered with colour, humour, and a sense of hope that the resulting extreme climatic events and chaos in the world will be mitigated.

The group’s 2018-2022 mail art collaboration (600+ images) will also be shown in a new interactive iteration.
Through their long history together, the Gibson Girls each embody the ability to support, challenge, and learn from one another. This exhibition opens their conversation to others as a gesture of hope through communication and understanding in our continuing fraught times.

✨ Meet Vidhushini Nanjappan, a mixed media artist here at Propeller Art Gallery.
Vidhushini is a Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist working across mixed media, sculptural painting, drawing, and found objects. Her abstract practice explores materiality, structure, and form through experimentation with diverse materials and processes. With a background in fashion design, her practice evolved from garment construction to visual art, where her interest in texture, composition, and three-dimensional form continues to shape her work. She creates sculptural forms and three-dimensional illusions from two-dimensional surfaces, blending traditional and contemporary techniques. She experiments with a wide range of materials, including plaster, metal wire, found objects, and industrial materials, using them to explore the deeper meanings of life and human experience. Her work has been exhibited at Propeller Art Gallery, Gallery 1313, Northern Contemporary, and Gerrard Art Space, as well as at the Manayunk Art Festival, where she received the Best in Mixed Media award.
