This might sound strange, but when you consider that fast-food packaging, such as burger wrapper, is typically made from oil-resistant paper that can contain PFAS, seaweed could be a more environmentally friendly alternative.

Most burger wrappers are currently not recyclable. Claire Gusko, co-founder of one • five, said the seaweed polymer wraps are not only recyclable, they also help regenerate marine environments through seaweed cultivation. ‘Seaweed cultivation helps to naturally rehabilitate marine environments, reduce greenhouse gases, and mitigate coastal erosion,’ Gusko said. ‘It’s important for us to use sustainable inputs upstream to ensure our products are environmentally safe, from cradle to grave.’
