This is an old but still great article by Russell Barkley that identifies the D (deficits) in ADHD as self-regulation and time awareness.
He writes;

"that such deficits can be temporarily improved or normalized with ADHD medications and also compensated for by modifying the environment..." and making other accommodations to support one's own self-control.
