Choosing a Canadian college or university is about more than getting an acceptance letter 🇨🇦🎓

For some students, the specific program and its 6-digit CIP code can affect PGWP eligibility. IRCC has also confirmed that eligible fields of study will remain frozen for 2026.

If staying in Canada after graduation is part of your long-term plan, it’s important to understand the immigration implications before making major education decisions.

🇨🇦 NEW EXPRESS ENTRY DRAW: TRANSPORT OCCUPATIONS

On August 7, IRCC held a new Express Entry category-based draw for Transport Occupations.

This was the first draw under the updated Transport Occupations category in 2026.

📌 300 candidates invited
📌 CRS cut-off: 470

This draw highlights an important trend in Express Entry: a high CRS score is not the only factor that matters.

Your occupation and whether your profile qualifies under one of IRCC’s priority categories can significantly affect your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

If you’re already living and working in Canada, it’s important to look beyond your CRS score and understand which Express Entry categories your profile may qualify for.

Sometimes the right immigration strategy isn’t about endlessly trying to increase your CRS. It’s about understanding which pathways and category-based draws could give your profile a realistic opportunity to receive an ITA.

Every immigration case is different.

Planning to study in Canada in 2027? 🇨🇦

One of the biggest reasons Study Permit applications face delays or refusals is an unconvincing financial file.

Many applicants focus only on showing the minimum amount required by IRCC. In reality, immigration officers may also review where the money came from, your financial history, and whether the funds are genuinely available.

If you’re planning for a 2027 intake, now is the right time to start preparing your documents.

🇨🇦 Planning to study in Canada in 2027? Here’s something you shouldn’t overlook.

If you’re preparing for a Canadian Study Permit, your financial documents could be just as important as your acceptance letter. 📑

As of today, a single applicant studying outside Quebec must show CAD $22,895 for living expenses when applying for a Study Permit. This amount does not include tuition or travel costs.

IRCC updates this minimum amount regularly to reflect the cost of living, and the next update is expected in Fall 2026. While the new amount has not yet been officially announced, students planning for a 2027 intake should be prepared for higher financial requirements.

But here’s what many applicants don’t realize:

Having only the minimum amount in your bank account doesn’t automatically make your application stronger.

IRCC may carefully review financial documents, including:

✅ The source of your funds
✅ Your banking history
✅ Whether the money is genuinely available
✅ How your financial documents are organized

A well-prepared financial file can make a significant difference during the assessment of your application.

🎓 If you’re planning to study in Canada in 2027, starting your preparation early gives you more time to build a stronger application.

IRCC has conducted a new Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Express Entry draw.

Draw results:
✅ 3,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs)
✅ Minimum CRS score: 516
✅ Tie-breaking rule: July 3, 2026, at 21:35:13 UTC

This is an encouraging update, as IRCC increased the number of invitations from 2,000 in the previous CEC draw to 3,000, while the CRS cut-off remained at 516.

If your CRS score is close to the current cut-off, now is the time to review your profile and make sure you’re in the strongest possible position before the next round of invitations.

🚨 Ontario has officially reopened the new Workforce Priority Stream. But before you celebrate, here’s what this actually means.

As of today, eligible applicants can once again register a new Expression of Interest (EOI) under Ontario’s redesigned immigration system.

Here’s what this means:

✅ Eligible applicants can now enter the pool by registering an EOI.

✅ Employers can submit qualifying job offers through Ontario’s new Employer Portal.

But here’s what it doesn’t mean:

❌ Ontario has not started issuing invitations yet.

❌ You have not received a provincial nomination.

❌ You have not applied for permanent residence.

Today’s announcement simply means the system is officially open again. The next step will be Ontario inviting candidates from the pool, but no invitation rounds have been announced yet.

If you’re planning to immigrate to Ontario, now is the time to make sure you’re actually eligible before invitations begin.

Your Post-Graduation Work Permit expiring this year doesn’t automatically mean your immigration journey is over. But waiting until the last minute can limit your options.

Many international graduates focus only on Express Entry, without realizing there may be other immigration pathways depending on their individual circumstances.

Every situation is different, and the best strategy depends on factors such as your education, Canadian work experience, language test results, current status, and long-term goals.

That’s why planning before your PGWP expires is so important.
