Sunset Patterns

As a designer, I make a lot of choices along the way. Once I’ve created the artwork and turned it into a pattern, one of the most important decisions is choosing the colour palette. It can completely change the feel of a design. Bold, bright colours can make a pattern feel energetic and playful, while softer or more muted colours can give it a completely different mood.

Sometimes I know immediately which direction I want to go… and sometimes I’m torn between two (or more!) versions.

This black and white pattern is a new take on my Flower Power design. I love how the bold contrast feels a little ’60s/’70s but also quite sophisticated. What do you think?

I always know summer is beginning to wind down when the herons start appearing on the sandbars. I’m not sure if there are more fish to catch or if the herons simply feel more comfortable once fewer people are wandering the sandbars. Either way, I’m always happy to see them.

Their quiet, graceful presence inspired my Blue Heron pattern. It’s one of those designs that surprised me. I originally created it as a complement to my Beach Collection, but I never expected it to become a pattern that people would be drawn to and choose for their homes. Maybe it’s the combination of the blues, the water and that unmistakable silhouette that makes it feel like summer by the ocean.

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be participating in the Friends of Sorauren Park Local Artist/Makers Showcase at the Farmers Market this Labour Day!

Come kick off the fall season with fresh local produce, beautiful handmade goods, and a little Sunset Patterns browsing. I’d love to see you there!

Thank you to everyone who voted for your favourite cranberry pattern!

It’s always fascinating to see which designs people are drawn to. Do you prefer the organic look of a random pattern, or the structured style of repeating sprigs?

The top two favourites were Berry Bog, with its playful random design, and Cranberry Sprigs, featuring a more structured pattern. I have to say, both look beautiful on tea towels, zippered pouches, and large market totes!

I’m so excited to share that I’ve been accepted as a vendor at the Bala Cranberry Festival, October 16–18, 2026!

And, of course, that called for a brand-new cranberry pattern.

I wanted to capture the beauty of a cranberry bog—with bright red cranberries popping against deep, watery blues. After a few different versions, I’ve narrowed it down to these four. I just love the colour contrast!

Now I need your help. Which design is your favourite: A, B, C or D?

A number of my customers use my zippered pouches as project bags for their knitting and crochet projects. The most recent sighting was a beach knitting project, which I love!

It got me thinking… why not create a pattern just for the knitters and makers? So, I designed one! Yarn, needles, stitches and plenty of colour—all tossed together in a playful pattern that I think is perfect for a project bag.
