I plan on sourcing some of these books and am hoping to find some great books to share with my budding readers.

Many books are full of tricky words that make it hard for beginner readers to gain confidence.
If your child feels behind others and can decode at a grade 1 level, these are great series to build confidence. If your student is a little behind and needs help reaching grade level, please reach out to me.

Finding books for boys to read after they graduate from my early reading program has been a challenge.
Yesterday I went in to a bookstore and was able to really dig through the book shelves. The following books will have many decodeable words, but there are still a few tricky words that may require support.

Reading progress moves so much faster over the summer months!
For Girls I recommend Princess in Black, Ivy and Bean.
The Magic Tree House is another excellent adventure series with a brother and sister who travel through time to locations all over the world.

This is exactly why I love teaching struggling readers how to read. The lifetime struggles and shame he lived with for so long are crushing to many.
The compensatory skills that this man mentions are mind blowing. He couldn’t read, but his parents were correct when they said he was bright.

For early readers and spellers, finding an association between letter names and sounds can be difficult. To practice while on the go running errands or driving, you can play an alphabet scavenger hunt. Find a word that starts with the T. Tree! Tire. Tummy.
