Over the past few weeks, we’ve been sharing information about legacy giving as part of Leave a Legacy Month.

For many people, this is something they think about gradually, or not at all until the right moment. And that’s completely okay.

Our goal is simply to make sure that if this is something you’re curious about, the information and support are available to you.

Cats like Grizzly are one of the reasons legacy gifts matter so deeply.

When Grizzly came into our care recently he was in rough shape: underweight, older, and living with a noticeable heart murmur. At TCR, we believe every cat deserves the highest quality of care, regardless of their age or medical needs. That’s why we invested in a full echocardiogram for Grizzly to better understand his condition. Thankfully, he does not currently require medication.

We are especially proud of our senior cat program, where we commit to giving older cats the care, rehabilitation, and soft landing spot they deserve to enjoy their golden years in comfort and safety. Since moving into a loving foster home and out of the shelter environment, Grizzly has truly flourished. He has gained weight, become more relaxed and confident, and is now preparing for adoption.

Stories like Grizzly’s are possible because compassionate supporters choose to create a future where cats always have somewhere to turn, no matter their age, medical needs, or condition when they arrive. Legacy giving doesn't require large wealth or complex planning. In many cases, it can be as simple as adding a charitable gift to an existing will, and it can always be changed later. If you would like to learn more, ask a few questions, or talk it through, we would be happy to connect. Visit https://signup-can.keela.co/fundraising-legacy-eoi to learn more!

Meet Ella 🤍

Ella is a beautiful light brown tabby with velvety dark markings and the most striking emerald green eyes. She is a quiet, thoughtful girl who enjoys the simple comforts of life—sitting by the window, lounging in a cozy chair, and gentle brushing sessions with someone she trusts.

While she isn’t a lap cat, she likes to stay nearby and be part of the space around her.

Ella can be shy with new people and does best in a calm, quiet home where things move at a slower pace. Once she feels safe, her personality really starts to shine through.

During playtime, she transforms into a focused little hunter, happily chasing wand toys, spring toys, and laser pointers with surprising energy and enthusiasm.

Ella is diabetic and will need ongoing care, including daily insulin and routine monitoring. With consistent support and a steady routine, she manages her condition well and continues to enjoy her daily life.

She would do best as the only cat in the home, where she can fully relax and enjoy her space without stress. Ella may take time to warm up, but she is a deeply rewarding companion for someone patient and kind.

She is looking for a forever home where she will be understood, supported, and loved for exactly who she is 🤍

At Toronto Cat Rescue, we don’t run a public shelter for people to meet cats available for adoption.

Instead, an incredible network of foster homes shower our kitties with the love and care they need while they await adoption.

This includes cats like Grizzly, a senior cat with a heart murmur who has been staying with a loving foster family since he was rescued a few weeks ago.

Fostering is a great way to ensure every cat is given the attention they deserve, and it helps provide the space for us to rescue more cats too!

Attention: A cat that was hit by a car was found this morning between Highway 10 / south of Grey Highlands, North of Dufferin Road 9. She was found near Dundel Golf Association.

She was brought by good Samaritans to a Toronto ER clinic where she is getting treatment, and they’ve reached out to TCR for help with her medical costs, as well as finding an owner.

She is less than a year old, and is a spayed female. She was in good body condition and appears to be an owned pet (not a stray that has been wandering for a while)

If you are her owners or have any information, please reach out to [email protected].

Every day at Toronto Cat Rescue, we see what compassion makes possible. A frightened stray becomes a healthy, adopted companion. A sick kitten receives life-saving treatment. A neglected cat finally experiences safety and care.

Legacy gifts (such as leaving a gift in your will), help make this continuity of care possible, not just today, but for years to come.

And for cats like Gemini, this long-term care is essential. At 12 years old, she arrived in our care in difficult condition. Severely overweight and living with a heart murmur, she also required an extensive 4.5-hour dental surgery shortly after rescue due to the severity of her dental disease.

Senior cats like Gemini often arrive with complex and expensive medical needs that have developed over many years. Obesity, dental disease, chronic pain, and behavioural rehabilitation can require significant veterinary care, ongoing monitoring, patience, and time in foster care before a cat is finally healthy and ready for adoption.

For many of these older cats, TCR is truly their last hope.

Despite everything she’s been through, Gemini is incredibly sweet, beautiful, and deserving of comfort, care, and a second chance. Because of supporters like you, we are able to say yes to cats who might otherwise be overlooked.

What makes legacy giving powerful is not only what it provides, but the stability it creates. It ensures that no matter what challenges arise, there is always a path forward for cats who need us. Many people are surprised to learn how simple and flexible it can be.

If you’d like to explore what this could look like for you, we’re here to help, confidentially and without obligation. Visit https://signup-can.keela.co/fundraising-legacy-eoi to learn more and reach out to us!
