Please join us in congratulating our wonderful Artistic Director Denise Fujiwara who is this year’s recipient of the .council Walter Carson Award for Excellence in the Performing Arts! šŸ†

On receiving this honour, Denise shared:
ā€œThe call from the Canada Council gave me great joy and hope in the midst of a calamitous year. My 99-year-old mother, who had been my first dance teacher, had a series of medical emergencies and had moved into palliative care. When I whispered into her ear that I had won the Walter Carson Prize and thanked her for her part in my receiving it, she lifted my hand and gently danced it in the air at the news. Days later, she passed away peacefully.ā€

Denise is amazed and grateful. Many, many thanks to all who have supported her creative work over the days and decades.

Congratulations, Denise! 🌟
