Trauma shapes how clients communicate, make decisions, and are perceived, and understanding that is essential to effective, ethical legal practice.

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Senior Counsel Simona Jellinek will present on Trauma Informed Lawyering as part of Module 5: Hot Topics, Case Law and Trends, within The Osgoode Professional Development Certificate in Consent, Capacity and Substitute Decision Making.

Drawing on her extensive experience, Simona will unpack how trauma can affect a client's capacity, instruction-giving, and credibility, offer guidance on recognizing trauma symptoms in clients, and explore how to lead with civility and empathy in trauma-heavy environments.
