The federal government has eliminated the 5% GST on new builds, potentially saving you up to $50,000. For homes up to $1 million, you get the full rebate. For homes between $1 million and $1.5 million, the rebate is phased out. Homes over $1.5 million receive no rebate.
The Ontario rebate is just a proposal, not a guarantee. Rules could change, and buyers assuming $130,000 back risk serious financial shortfalls if legislation doesn't pass as expected. Don't budget for money that isn't there.
