CS Kid
Edmonton artist CS Kid is an R&B/Folk Singer-Songwriter with a knack for writing melodies that hook in.
I have a soft spot for songs in 5/4 and lyrics about yearning.
Your grandpa would probably love this one. Just need a bit of harmonica and a half empty bottle of whiskey.
I wanna brag for a second. For the first time ever I’ve managed to record, mix, and master a song in its entirety all on my own. It’s something I’ve always tried to do, but I’ve never been able to accomplish to the level of quality I want until now. Every recorded instrument, every bit of mixing, I did solo with my uber basic home studio setup. Hours and hours were spent listening to sections over again, and even more hours were spent attending YouTube University. I cannot wait to get this one out into the world. It’s been too damn long.

“The Beatles are overrated” and it’s literally the band that wrote this song

Recently, I was given the honour of being invited down to the Loyal Edmonton Regiment Museum to see a new display that featured the medals awarded to my Great Grandfather Thomas Charles Shaw in the First World War during his time in the 49th Battalion. The experience was as remarkable as it was humbling. To learn about the conditions these soldiers were in, and the random chaos of war that stopped so many of them from coming home. To hold real pieces of history, like the pistol used by General Griesbach (that Griesbach) in WWI, and see uniforms marked with bullet holes. It’s an experience I won’t soon forget.
In September of 1916, “Charlie” Shaw ran out of the trenches into No Man’s Land during the battle of Somme in a successful effort to lead stranded men back to safety. During the act, he suffered a gunshot wound through his chest and laid bleeding in a trench with only 1 lung for what could’ve been as long as 24 hours before he was transported to a hospital. He was in hospital during the Battle of Vimy Ridge where sadly a significant number of soldiers from his Battalion would not make it home.
Lest We Forget.
