Is spontaneous s*x is ideal? New research from the Sexual Health and Relationships (SHaRe) Lab finds that when people believe planned s*x is satisfying and have planned s*x, they report more s*xual desire and have more s*x than those who don’t, dispelling the myth that spontaneous s*x is always better.

New SHaRe Lab paper: Partners who match in s*xual desire are not more satisfied than partners who are mismatched. Higher desire is associated with s*xual and relationship satisfaction, but there was no effect of matching in desire for satisfaction. The findings suggest that instead of aiming to be congruent in their s*xual desire, partners might aim to successfully navigate their differences.

At a time when many people might have unmet social/relational/s*xual needs, our new paper comes out showing that people low in attachment avoidance (those comfortable with closeness) tend to think/fantasize more about past partners when they have unmet needs. Avoidant people (who value independence and are uncomfortable with closeness) did not calibrate their *xualnostalgia based on their need fulfillment.
More broadly, we know that can sometimes help people feel more connected during times when they are socially isolated or lonely.
