2026 marks 100 years since the birth of Miles Davis, an artist whose influence reached far beyond jazz. 🎺
His story also became part of Robert Lepage’s theatrical world.
In Needles and O***m, one of Lepage’s landmark works, the lives of Miles Davis and Jean Cocteau intersect with the story of a Québécois actor named Robert, moving between Paris and New York through love, loss, addiction, and creation.
The reimagined production became especially known for its extraordinary scenography: a tilted, three-walled cube slowly rotating above the stage, transforming from a hotel room into a jazz club, a recording studio, and an entire city.
For Lepage, the stage is never simply a background. It becomes part of the story itself.
This year, as Miles Davis’s centennial is celebrated around the world, we are remembering one of the most striking places where his music and Robert Lepage’s theatre met. 🎭
