Not all beef is raised equally!

Costco is a store with great deals, but not all the beef they sell is worth your money or your health. With that said, let’s break down the best and worst beef Costco has to offer:

❌ THE WORST: Conventional Beef (often sold in bulk as a special deal) - This meat is the most toxic at Costco (second only to the chicken). Here’s why:
👉 This beef is often raised in poor conditions, such as overcrowded feedlots.
👉 This beef is often force-fed GMO-grown grain feed like corn and soy to fatten them up.
👉 This beef is often treated with hormones like testosterone and estrogen, which are implanted under the skin as pellets to increase its size and yield more meat.

🫤 BETTER, BUT NOT BEST: Organic Beef - Organic beef looks better on the packaging, but many are still likely comprised of feedlot-raised cows.
👉 Cows are often grain-finished (even if the packaging says grass-fed), which throws off fatty acid ratios.
👉 Unless your beef says “100% Pasture-Raised, Grass-Fed, Grass-Finished” on the package, you can’t trust that it hasn’t been fed GMO corn and soy grains up to 50% of its life, since the FDA does not heavily regulate the use of verbiage related to quality like grass-fed vs grass-finished and so on.
✔️ Organic beef is superior to conventional beef in terms of quality and nutritional profile, but it still has limitations.

✅ THE BEST: 100% Grass-Fed Beef at Costco
🥩 No antibiotics or added hormones
🥩 The cows eat grass and graze freely as they should
🥩 Higher nutrient density and optimal omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratios (healthy fats)
🥩 Higher in CLA (brain-supporting fat)

Just make sure when you’re shopping at Costco, you check those labels and watch out for half-baked marketing promising a higher quality beef than they deliver.

Don’t forget to share this with the beef lovers in your life before their next Costco run!
