Project Bellwoods. A whole-home renovation that tested everything we know.

Century homes often have secrets and surprises. This one gave us cut joists, sagging floors, holes in the party wall, and 100 year old newspaper underlay (swipe to see it).

None of that shows in the finished build though.

Floor got leveled, party wall rebuilt and soundproofed, arched doorway, a gorgeous bathroom, and a bedroom that finally does the peaked ceiling justice.

Credit where it's due. The homeowners kept a level head through every surprise, and the crew solved problems all the way through:

We f**ked up. Not on the work. On the system behind the work.

Halfway through two projects, I ended up in the ER. An allergic reaction took me out for over half a month.

Here's the uncomfortable part: because everything ran through me, the jobs essentially went down too. Clients waited. Trades stalled. That's a system failure and it needed to be fixed.

So we fixed it. Every larger Craft & Key job now runs on four processes: a full kickoff session before work starts, a written client update on the same day every single week, paperwork that lives on site where everyone can see it, and a second in command who knows the whole picture on every project.

The Greenwood garden makeover, start to finish.

We rebuilt this back garden into a space that works as hard as the family living in it: room for two young kids to run, a deck built with them in mind, and a place to host the whole street when the weather's good.

The homeowners were the kind of clients that make this work worth it. Clear about what they wanted, open to ideas, and gracious about the "late additions" (no apology needed, that's how the best projects come together).

What we did:

Demo old deck, add new expanded deck, new steps, new bench seating with custom storage, raised planters, brick walkway to back of garden, custom privacy fence.

The last few months at Craft and Key!

We were lucky enough to stay busy over the winter and work on some amazing projects.

We've also been fortunate enough stay mostly in the west end and we love making a positive impact in our neighborhood.
