At a time when many expected escalation, this agreement reminds us that conciliation remains one of the most powerful tools in resolving conflict.

The role played by Pakistan demonstrates the value of principled leadership, sustained dialogue, and creating space for difficult conversations to lead to peaceful outcomes.

Sulha is more than a concept — it is a practice of building understanding, preserving dignity, and choosing resolution over division.

Conciliation is not weakness. It is leadership.

Eid Mubarak to you and your families. May Allah accept our prayers, sacrifices, and good deeds, and grant peace, conciliation, and safety to the world—and love, understanding, and tranquility to every home.

Today’s decision by the Supreme Court of Canada in Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia marks a significant moment in Canadian family law and the broader conversation around intimate partner violence. The Court recognized intimate partner violence as a distinct legal wrong, acknowledging that coercive control, emotional abuse, isolation, intimidation, and patterns of domination cause profound harm to dignity, autonomy, and equality. (SCC Decisions)

This decision will have a major impact on family dispute resolution across Canada. It reinforces the importance of trauma-informed, safety-focused, and ethically grounded approaches in mediation and family conflict processes. Not every family matter is appropriate for traditional mediation, and professionals must be equipped to recognize power imbalances, coercive dynamics, and the realities of family violence.

At Sulha Solutions, we have long emphasized the importance of specialized training in family mediation, conflict management, and culturally competent dispute resolution. As practitioners working at the intersection of mediation, community engagement, and restorative approaches, we recognize that meaningful resolution can only happen where safety, dignity, and informed practice are prioritized.

Today’s ruling is not only a legal development — it is a reminder that dispute resolution professionals carry a serious responsibility to ensure that processes do not unintentionally silence or disadvantage those experiencing abuse.

A landmark day for family law, access to justice, and the future of responsible family dispute resolution in Canada.

We are proud to announce that our Founder, Ibrahim Hussain, will be presenting “The Sulha Framework: Integrating Islamic Peacemaking Principles into Modern FDR Practice” — now approved for Law Society of Ontario accreditation.

Professionalism: 0.5 hour
EDI Professionalism: 1.0 hour

This marks the first time that Sulha, rooted in Islamic peacemaking principles and traditions, will be formally addressed in a mainstream legal and Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) setting in Canada. It is also the first time a workshop of this nature has received Law Society of Ontario accreditation.

This presentation is an important step in bringing faith-informed approaches into mainstream Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) conversations and demonstrating how Islamic peacemaking principles can enrich modern mediation and legal practice.

We look forward to contributing to the ongoing conversation around culturally responsive and inclusive dispute resolution in Ontario and beyond.

In light of the Islamabad talks, we are reminded that the true goal of mediation is not merely to secure an agreement, but to create a constructive space where parties can openly explore their interests, concerns, and perspectives.

While an agreement is not always reached, mediation remains a powerful process—one that fosters meaningful dialogue, reduces tensions, and builds mutual understanding. Often, the first step toward resolution is simply being heard.

Pakistan’s efforts in promoting Sulha (conciliation) during the Islamabad talks are truly commendable. In a time of division, prioritizing dialogue, understanding, and peaceful resolution reflects principled leadership and a sincere commitment to stability. May such efforts lead to lasting unity and justice.
